Aminophylline consists of Theophylline (a compound similar to caffeine) and Ethylenediamine (a stabilizing agent). Topical Aminophylline has been demonstrated to be an effective for topical fat loss.
Subjects were put on a reduced calorie diet and those that using aminophylline cream around the waistline had twice the improvement in waist circumference.

For weight loss, it does''nt seem to matter how you induce a caloric deficit, whether through diet or exercise. Inducing a caloric deficit in either way resulted in similar improvements in body weight, fat mass, insulin sensitivity and visceral fat volume.
Still, both diet and exercise are important for other reasons ...

Having a high level of aerobic capacity offer protection against a high fat diet. Rats with an inbred low aerobic capacity were heavier, with elevated triglycerides and had lower muscle oxidative capacity when fed a high fat diet compared to rats with a higher aerobic capacity.

Here is another study showing enhanced diet results with increased intake of dairy calcium. The group receiving the dairy calcium were more than twice as likely to achieve significant weight loss.
