Long term low carbohydrate diets and heart disease

December 21st, 2006 | by David Spelts |

Data from the Nurses Study was used to examine any relationship between long term low carbohydrate diets and heart disease. Over 20 years, no relationship was found between low carbohydrate diets and heart disease. They did find a relationship between high glycemic diets and heart disease.

The Metabolic Syndrome is primarily driven by insulin resistance, so it does’nt surprise me that high glycemic diets increase cardiovascular disease risk. It is important to note that saturated fat is one of the main forces behind insulin resistance.
