Green Tea Increases Abdominal Fat Loss From Exercise

January 3rd, 2009 | by David Spelts |

Green Tea

Drinking green tea causes greater abdominal fat loss from exercise.  Tea drinkers show increases in total abdominal fat loss and subcutaneous abdominal fat loss, while having lower triglycerides (a marker for insulin sensitivity).

The control group received an equal amount of caffeine.  The active compounds in green tea are EGCG and the catechins.

thank you for the information.i think everyoe will start to intake green tea reading this post.
The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).
EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant,besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue.
It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots.

I had a tough time losing weight.I tried various diets without success. Then I discovered walking and at about the same time green tea which I had been advised to take also. I love drinking it anyway and had partaken of the occasional cup. Now I drink it every day and believe it benefits me greatly. With a diet of mainly veggies, salads, fruit, beans, nuts and just a little lean meat and fish the pounds just melted away.I gradually extended the distance of my daily brisk walks and this is great aerobic exercise for the heart and lungs too. I advise anyone who seriously wants to lose weight to follow this plan.It works for me.

I had a hard time trying to find a green tea that was convenient and tasty. Finally I tried Bluberry Green Tea from Nestle, and I really like it. My question is, would this tea work just as good on ab fat as the yuckie tasting health food store teas that are messy to make as much as they are yuckie to drink?

I think those premade drinks are going to be an expensive way to get green tea, but it sure beats a soda.

If you don’t like green tea, you can always take a green tea supplement…

Guys- I enjoy a cup of G-Tea once in a while, but to achieve the benefits achieved in some of the studies you should take an EGCg/GT extract….NOW Brands makes a good one. Otherwise, you will be drinking about 6-8 cups a day to garner the fat-burning benefits.

Green tea does seem to provide an additional jolt to the metabolism, however, it is pretty mild and so you should use it as support to a total program.

The benefits of drinking tea, green and otherwise has been long recognized by the Chinese. In this age of highly-processed foods, it’s good to see that the rest of the world is discovering the wonders of this ancient beverage. For fat-loss, folks should remember that doing the right exercises along with a healthy diet ensures speedy results.

I gradually made the switch from coffee to green tea and found that the latter is much more soothing during stressful situations and way better for my waistline. However, I agree with Lynn that doing the right fat-burning exercises with a healthy diet is the fastest way to flatten a bulging stomach.

Green teas great; however, I am not sure about this spot reducing fat loss. Regardless, it’s a great substitute for pop or juice.

You will get a preferential loss of visceral fat whenever you improve insulin sensitivity… and that will happen whether or not you believe in it.

Think I’m going to have to try to drink more green tea! I’ve always heard that green tea can help trim up your tummy, but I heard you had to drink excessive amounts. Is this true?

It does take multiple cups. You can take an extract if you prefer.

Anti-oxidant goodness and fat-loss benefits all in one beverage! I agree with Seifer and Lynn however that complementing a healthy diet with the right kind of exercises can result in rapid fat loss. For those trying to squeeze-in effective fat loss workouts in a tight schedule, metabolic training is the answer- it lets us reap the benefits of hours of cardio in less than 30 minutes a day!
