Weight loss plateaus

January 6th, 2007 | by David Spelts |

Weight loss plateaus occur after an average weight loss of around 11% of body weight. At this point, the resting metabolic rate is significantly lower and hunger is significantly higher. Depression may also be present.

It may be appropriate to use a dietary refeed period of about 2 weeks at weight loss plateau. Caloric intake would be somewhere around the calories required for maintenance. Exercise should be continued.
