VAT associated with physical activity

January 31st, 2007 | by David Spelts |

Visceral fat and subcutaneous fat are both associated with total body fat. But only visceral fat is inversely associated with physical activity.

This is because the strongest correlation is between insulin resistance and visceral fat. Because exercise improves insulin sensitivity, as well as other positive actions, it would make sense that it would preferentially reduce visceral fat over subcutateous fat.
