Post-exercise protein turnover

May 18th, 2007 | by David Spelts |

Runners consumed either a low protein, moderate protein or high protein diet and whole body protein turnover was measured post exercise. Unfortunately, changes in body composition were not studied.

No difference in protein synthesis was found between the diets. Protein breakdown was increased in the high protein group, probably indicating that dietary protein was being used as fuel. BCAA’’s were higher in the moderate and high protein groups at rest and non-essential amino acids were higher in the low protein group.
