Another look at spot reduction

July 20th, 2007 | by David Spelts |

It is generally believed that it is impossible to spot reduce. This study used modern measuring techniques to measure subcutaneous fat in trained and untrained arms after resistance training.

When measured by skinfold, subcutaneous fat decreased in the trained arm and not the untrained arm in the men. MRI measurements of subcutaneous fat were not different between arms. The MRI is a more sensitive measurement than skinfold measurements.
